  • Artistic impression of a Kaalhari Pan
    VGR_20100922_8545.jpg
  • Yet another B&W image as my IOTM. This time a high-key approach to a misty Deadvlei scene. I tried a handful of different conversions and it was the strong graphic result of the high-key version that appealed to me. A good example also that maximum detail throughout in lights and darks is not always important. I thought this to be a fitting scene for the December month; with a little imagination you see dead Christmas trees in the snow!

  • Abstract take on some Nxai Pan Giraffes.

  • This is an image from 2013 I dug up from my unprocessed RAW files when searching for zebra images. It may well be too 'arty-farty' for many, but it really appealed to me, particularly in black & white.

  • Scene of the Sossusvlei sand dunes.
    VGR_20130523_1842.jpg
  • This month features a rather abstract image, a favourite from a very recent visit to my beloved Sossusvlei sand dunes. The patterns in the sand all converging to a 'Black Hole', a shadow patch behind a dune ridge, combined with the interesting play of light and shadow, had me fascinated for a long time. These sand dunes are full of inspirational abstract patterns and the longer I walk amongst them, the more I 'see'.

  • 'Spot the pussy' <br />
Serval cat in its preferred habitat, tall grasses, making it near invisible. In the original RAW file of this image the cat was actually extremely invisible, but I decided to process the image a bit more than I normally do, to bring out the cat and give it a more artistic look.

  • 'Mystical Blue'<br />
An artistic abstract take on the immensely beautiful, and somewhat mystical, Chinhoyi Caves in northern Zimbabwe. More Zim images to follow soon!

  • White-breasted Cormorant taking flight on the Kafue River.<br />
<br />
'Cormorant take-off'<br />
<br />
Yes, it is just a common White-breasted Cormorant! And yes technically the image is under-exposed! But that is exactly what gives the image its graphic and artistic appeal.

  • 'Kwando Dogs' - A pack of Wild Dogs walks in single file as they start the afternoon hunt.<br />
No, not the most spectacular of my wild dog shots, but I liked the single file line up, and especially the light and the inclusion of the habitat, which give this an artistic quality.

  • 'Reflections of Baines'.<br />
The inspirational clump of Baobabs on the fringe of the Kudiakam Pan complex in the Nxai Pan National Park that was immortalized by and named after famous explorer/artist Thomas Baines, cast their reflections in a seasonally flooded Kudiakam Pan. This image was the winning submission in the landscape category in the Botswana 'Images for Conservation' photo competition 2013.
