32 imagesThis Gallery contains some of my personal favorite photographs, irrespective of whether these are successful and/or technically perfect or not!

115 imagesA collection of fantastic photos of lions, the undisputed kings of the African plains.

31 imagesIf there is one animal that embodies the spirit of Africa it is undoubtedly the African Elephant (Loxodanta africana) for me; just try to imagine Africa or even Botswana without these pachyderms. Apart from that there are many reasons why Elephants are my favourite animals. One of them is that they are so much fun to observe; I can literally watch them for hours on end. Dust-bathing and mud-bathing are particularly entertaining activities.

31 imagesOf all bird species I am most fascinated by raptors and particularly by Eagles. My favorite Eagle species undoubtedly is the Black Eagle, a.k.a. the Verreaux Eagle (Aquila verreauxii). This is one of the largest Eagles in Africa

37 imagesAs a photographic artist I love strong silhouettes. Their high graphic character with often bold shapes and bright colours provide perfect ingredients for artistic abstract images.

42 imagesImages by Vincent Grafhorst that were successful in various degrees in nature photography competitions such as Nature's Best, BBC WPOTY, Lucie International Photography Awards (IPA), Getaway/Fujifilm and more.

46 imagesBotswana's Northern Tuli Game Reserve (NTGR), which borders to Zimbabwe and South Africa, is vastly different from any other place in the country. Permanent and perennial Rivers with lush riverine forests, featuring massive Shatu (Nyala Berry) trees as well as rocky outcrops strewn with rock Fig trees make for a unique scenery. The impressive wildlife with its many Elephants and endangered Wild Dogs make this hidden corner of Botswana an African treasure.

4 imagesThe Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho is Africa a little different. Its magnificent dramatic mountains particularly provide a landscape photographer with ample inspiration.

38 imagesThe Bat-eared Fox (Otocyon megalotis) is a most peculiar canid as it feeds only on insects. These adorable cute little fur balls are one of my favorite species to photograph.
-
25 imagesThe Spotted Hyena (Crocuta crocuta) is often regarded as a cowardly scavenger. This is far from the trusth as theses fascinating creatures with their complex matriarchy are in fact excellent hunters, moreover in the more Arid places. Its cousin the Brown Hyana (Hyaena brunnea) on the other hand is a nocturnal scavenger that is dependent on mainly the remains of lion kills.

189 imagesThe Okavango Delta is often also referred to as the Jewel of the Kalahari. A titile that speaks for itself!
-
26 imagesLake Xau has been a dry dustbowl for the last 30 odd years or so. Things have changed dramatically with the coming of the Okavango waters!

49 imagesAfter the first rains of the season, the 'Green Season' commences. It is the most colourful time of year with many young animals, lush green bush and the most dramatic cloud formations. Not surprisingly it is my preferred time to be out in the bush.

13 galleriesI LOVE Namibia. It is probably my favorite photographic destination in Southern Africa. Namibia simply inspires me and has so much to offer, from scenic desert landscapes to extraordinary trees, ghost towns, wild desert horses and abundant African Wildlife.

5 galleriesMadagascar is like no place else on earth. The breathtaking landscapes and the exceptional flora and fauna simply blows you away. Separated from Africa by hundreds of kilometres of sea and 165 million years of evolution have evolved Madagascar's plants and animals into some of the weirdest forms on the planet. Nowhere else can you see over 70 varieties of lemur, the world's biggest and smallest chameleons, and 6 endemic Baobab species. And the people are no less interesting: arriving here some 2000 years ago along the Indian Ocean trade routes, they grow rice in terraced paddies, and speak a language that has more in common with their origins in Southeast Asia than with the African continent. Their culture is steeped in taboo and magic. Further you will be amazed by their unconditional hospitality.
