RAW files required

A recent e-mail with the above title brought a smile to my face…

For the past few years I have been trying my luck in what is probably the biggest and most prestigious wildlife photography competition in the world, the BBC Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition. Twice in the past I have reached the very final judging round whereby one is asked to submit the original RAW image file and the hi-res TIFF file, complete with captions and shooting techs etc. However, unfortunately none of those images have actually won an award in this competition. Luckily this year I have another chance as one of my images has reached this final judging round again! Due to the popularity and high profile of this competition I regard this as an achievement in itself. That said, it would be really nice if I am third time lucky and come out with a winning image this year. Winners and commended photographers will be notified on 18 May 2012. Until then I will not reveal which image is being considered.

  1. Hi Vincent, that’s great to know!

Have you heard from NHM or do you know whether winners have been notified?

  2. Hi There,

I hope that you were one of those who were contacted about your photos – I had two photos in the finals but by now know that neither of them won anything (though I have yet to hear anything officially its been too long since the 18th unfortunately). I agree that its an honour to get to this stage – you must be doing something right to get to the finals three times! Very impressive!

I also just wanted to say that I very much enjoy your photography – you have some great images here!

    All the best.

  3. Well, indeed it is past the official date that winners would be notified and unfortunately I have not been contacted… All the more reason to try again harder next year, I won’t give up!

  4. I agree, I won’t be giving up either but I’m sorry to hear that you weren’t notified – I would have thought that with the quality of your photographs that you would have got in!! Oh well, as you say, we can only just try again next year!!
    All the best.
